Property Settlement Agreements

Despite the name, Property Settlement Agreements commonly address more than just how marital property is divided. Often, Property Settlement Agreements (PSAs), or Marital Settlement Agreements, address other contentious points, such as custody, visitation, and support stipulations.

The goal of negotiating a PSA between parties is to find resolution privately instead of involving the Court. Typically, it is in the best interest of both parties to resolve disputed matters outside of the Courts, and attorneys often spend a large percentage of time working toward this end. An important goal when crafting and negotiating a PSA should be the protection of a client’s long-term interests.
